Klairs Supple Facial Preparation Toner was one of the first Korean beauty products I bought and tried out.
Truth be told, I was quite skeptical before going for it because I thought it might not be as good as the rave behind it.
(I recommend you read this earlier article on Mugwort Essence if you want to know how my interest in Korean beauty products started.)
Since seeing and trying is believing, I decided to order it along with other Korean skincare products such as the Blue Youth Activating Drop, Pore Zero Night Cream, Gentle Black Sugar Scrub, etc.
Therefore, in this review, I am going to walk you through everything you need to know about the toner as well as my experience using it.
So, stay tuned okay!
The supple preparation facial toner is a colorless liquid that has a gel-like consistency (not as sticky as a gel though) which makes it a lot like a skin serum.
Like any other toner, it is supposed to be applied in the second step of a skincare regimen after cleansing.
With that, it preps the skin for the following skincare products that would be applied thereafter.
The product is said to be free of artificial coloring, fragrance, ethanol, steroid, and silicon.
Plus, it is vegan-friendly, PH balanced, and cruelty-free.
From the ingredients list, it has a total of 33 ingredients with water as the base.
The key ingredients are Beta Glucan, Hyaluronic acid, and Lipidure.
Please see below for the extensive list, or simply skim over.
“Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract, Beta-Glucan, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Copper Tripeptide-1”
It’s okay if you are not familiar with some of the ingredients listed above, you are not alone.
For our peace of mind, I did more research on them and found that none of them are among the toxic ingredients to avoid in cosmetic products listed on the skin-deep website.
According to its claims, it is meant to be deeply moisturizing, hydrating, and have a good absorption rate.
Also, it is said to be ideal for sensitive skin due to its soothing effect.
Of course, the claims behind this product are quite appealing and satisfying for a toner.
I believe you would agree with me that a toner that is super moisturizing and does not strip the skin’s natural oil is indeed a must-have for every beauty lover.
But, does it meet up to those claims?
Anyways, we will find out soon enough from my experiences and the experiences of others if it works as advertised, or even better, exceeds those claims.
That is what the rest of this review will be focused on!
My Thoughts On The Supple Preparation Facial Toner… My Experience In Detail!
My very first impression of any product as a skincare lover often starts with the packaging.
The toner comes in a dark 180ml bottle and screw style lid of the same color.
It has a white inner lid with a small hole-like opening from which the product dispenses through.
The packaging is completed with a carton box that helps secure the bottle and product. I believe that makes it easier to be safely shipped to any part of the world.
My skincare regimen generally consists of two toning steps.
In the first step, I apply my toner using a cotton pad, and in the second step, I pour a tad bit amount on my palms and pat gently on my skin.
But that is not the case when I use the recommended “Klairs Toner Mate 2 in 1 Cotton Pads” to apply my Supple Preparation Facial Toner.
Talking from experience here!
When it’s not Winter and you do not have very dry skin, I believe you wouldn’t need a double toning step when you apply it with the toner mate 2 in 1 cotton pads.
This is because the pad allows the product to absorb well into the skin.
Another good thing about the cotton pads is, the toner on the pad is delivered unto the skin without any wastage at all.
We all know most cotton pads waste products a lot as they soak in lots of products and deliver a tad bit amount unto the skin.
What makes it different is due to the structure of the pads which are of two types in the box;
The compressed pads made of 100% cotton (an excellent exfoliant), and the sponge pads made of pulp/rayon blend (an exceptional hydrator).
As for the compressed pad, I often use this at night before going to bed. It helps in gently exfoliating my skin and removes the makeup residual left after cleansing.
When it is winter and my skin becomes extra dry, I go an extra step by pouring on my palm and pat on my face. You may need an extra step depending on your skin type and climatic condition!
The sponge pads are what I used to apply the toner in the morning.
Using it makes it unnecessary to go an extra step because the sponge pad soaks in just the right amount of product and effectively delivers it unto the skin.
If I must use one word to describe my application process of the supple preparation facial toner with the use of the cotton pads, that would be “LUXURY.” Nothing less!
You know what it feels like when you stumble upon that one thing that is like no other in terms of comfort and effects!
Overall, my first impression of the toner after the first application was an ENTHHALLING experience, and it subsequently became even more IRRESISTIBLE.
Texture & Smell
While using the toner, I realize its consistency makes working with it a lot easier as it allows for an effortless application.
Whenever I apply the toner, unlike those with water consistency, I noticed the gel-like or serum-like texture of this toner prevents it from instantly sinking into the skin nor is it too runny.
Instead, it stays on the surface of my skin for a while and allows me the time to distribute it evenly and firmly without feeling sticky.
During that process, I could feel my skin absorbing it.
It kinda has a cosmetic scent to it, I mean it is not odorless. The scent should be due to the essential oils present in it.
Of course, it isn’t pungent, but, if you are sensitive to essential oils I recommend you go for the “UNSCENTED VERSION” which still possesses all the qualities of the scented version without the presence of essential oils in it.
Whenever I apply it on my skin, I usually feel a cooling sensation. If you can picture what it feels like when your face is hot, and you splash chilly water on it, that is how it feels!
On other days when my skin becomes red after using a clay mask, it was REMARKABLY EFFECTIVE at soothing and calming that redness.
Do you have sensitive skin? Then, you have just found yourself and skin a new compatible mate!
I mentioned earlier that it is serum-like right, this means because of its super hydrating effect, if hydration is what you most desire in your serums, then you can save your money.
You no longer need to spend extra dollars to buy a hydrating serum.
The only reason I use a serum with this toner is that they are formulated to help correct my blemishes and dark spot from acne scars.
My love for its moisturizing effect is such that it makes me feel one could pass on a moisturizer.
You shouldn’t feel tempted to skip moisturizing after toning okay! It would help to seal in the moisture from the toner and would give an added moisture as well.
Another thing I noticed is that, my skin becomes smoother and supple the more I continued to use the product.
Also, my pores started to become tightened and invisible (note: they were not overly conspicuous before I started with the product). But still, that firming, and pore tightening effect was so eminent.
I think the only thing it didn’t do for me was preventing acne, it just kept it at minimum.
I did experience hormonal acne lesion while in my period, but instead of a breakout of three or more pimples, only one would stubbornly pop out of my cheek. Well, not so bad though!
It isn’t fair if I say the improvement of my acne scars was solely due to it because I was using other products that could help with scaring and blemishes as well.
Nevertheless, I must mention that my skin tone became more even and brighter, and my dark circles were really at bay—keep this in mind, ‘I am at times a night owl, and sleep late sometimes.’
Its Other Uses:
What Others Think About It
There are a lot of good positive reviews on this product. Even though I was quite skeptical due to that, it was also one of the main reasons I decided to go for it.
Of course, if the reviews were negative, I definitely would not give it a second look not to talk about spending my money on it.
It has 4.8 out of 5 ratings from about 745 reviewers on the product page on wishtrend.com at the time of this review.
This simply means a huge total of 96% out of 100% of people who have used this toner are incredibly happy with it.
Here is a sneak peek of some of the reviews;
On Amazon, it has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars from a total of 703 ratings.
As for me, it did not stop my acne from popping out, but many others that reported it CLEARED UP or even PREVENTED acne overall. Yeah, we all are different!
Despite its many positive reviews on Amazon, I also read a couple of negative reviews such as receiving fake versions after ordering.
Others complained about irritation to the skin after the next buys.
For this reason, and to be on the safer side, I would highly recommend ordering from Wishtrend or YesStyle directly instead of Amazon even though it is the cheapest place to buy.
